Alumni Spotlight: Nicole Holland ‘11
Our first Alumni Spotlight shines on Nicole Holland ‘11!
MacLachlan College Alumni Nicole Holland shares, “Mindfulness is something I started to learn at MAC, and something I practice daily now.” After leaving the halls of MacLachlan, Nicole went on to complete a Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo and a Masters of Arts in Education at the University of Toronto. Going forward she carried her passion for teaching around the world.
While teaching in Melbourne, Australia in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the globe. She says, “During Melbourne’s lockdown, we were only allowed outside for 1 hour a day. I was already practicing mindfulness daily, but during the lockdown, I particularly appreciated the way visualizations calmed my body and mind with mental imagery.”
Nicole used her own experience with mindfulness to give her students a much-needed outlet. She encouraged them to embark on adventures using visualizations and the power of their own mind. And so her book was born!
The book, “A Journey Into The Mysterious Ocean: A Visualization Experience” leads children on an adventure using their curiosity and own imagination. Nicole will be returning to MacLachlan College to share a virtual reading of her book with our PYP students and dive into the power of mindfulness.
