An "Eggciting" Experiment for Our Grade 12 Physics Students!
After weeks of planning, testing and building their designs, each student took the opportunity to have their prototype dropped off the back roof of the school onto the hard pavement four stories below! The objective was to create a protective structure that prevented a raw egg from breaking on impact.
This was an amazing practical application of in class learning, students used their physics knowledge to design egg drop devices that adhered to certain restrictions including, no parachutes, and a weight limit and size limitation. Although some designs proved to be more successful than others, the event was quite a spectacle and the Physics class greatly enjoyed this hands on assignment.
