Gr.8 Scientists in School Workshop

To support their current “Structures and Mechanisms” unit in Science, Grade 8 students participated in a workshop by Scientists in School entitled “Systems at Work”.

Students explored in-depth how simple machines work to create a mechanical advantage, and how they can be used to overcome obstacles; explore inclined planes, wheels, levers, and pulleys; analyze how friction affects mechanical advantage; and investigate how simple machines can be combined to create complex systems used in building communities and disaster relief.
