MacLachlan College awards King Constantine Medal to Micah Albert
Congratulations to Micah Albert on receiving the Round Square King Constantine Medal for 2021-2022. This medal is awarded to a special person or group of people who have performed extraordinary and excellent work within their local or school community and genuinely exemplify the spirit of the Round Square IDEALS.
Micah received the King Constantine Medal from Mrs. Lisa Mingo, who also serves as the Round Square Coordinator and a guidance counsellor at MacLachlan College. At the ceremony, she shared,
“Our first-ever recipient of this award displays so many of these qualities. When I first met her, I knew she wasn’t going to be the kind of student who would just let life pass her by, and before the end of her Grade 8 year, I was already seeing her passions turn into action.
A one-day conference in the spring about diversity and equity lit a spark. She found her voice, and wanted to make a change. Throughout the remainder of her Grade 8 year, she took it upon herself to learn about issues experienced by a variety of marginalized and minority groups, and she shared her learning each Thursday morning on announcements.
Out of that, our Diversity and Inclusion club was born, giving students a space to share their experiences, opening discussion within our school community about how we can learn and be better together, and bringing awareness to issues facing students within our school and the community around us.”
Congratulations, Micah, we look forward to your bright future!
