Reflecting on a Year of Connection and Community at MacLachlan College

By: Rachel O"Hagan

As I sit down to reflect on my first year here at MacLachlan College, words seem insufficient to capture the depth of gratitude and joy that fills my heart. The closing of the school year prompts us to pause, look back, and appreciate the gift that the past year has been.

One of the most cherished aspects of my time at MacLachlan has been the connections I've forged within the alumni community and the broader school community. From the very beginning, I was welcomed with open arms, and the warmth and sense of belonging that permeate this place have been truly remarkable.

I am especially grateful for the tireless work of the Near and Far Committee, who support our alumni both in Oakville and around the world. Their dedication to planning virtual and in-person events ensures that we always stay connected, no matter the distance. Additionally, the Moves After Mac Committee plays a vital role in supporting networking opportunities, where our alumni serve as mentors to guide others in their career and personal development.

Throughout the year, we've had the opportunity to come together in various settings, whether it was through our lively Shinny events filled with laughter and camaraderie or our heartwarming Winterfest celebrations that brought together past and present members of the MacLachlan family. I am immensely grateful for our dedicated alumni volunteers whose contributions made these events a resounding success.

One of the highlights of the year was undoubtedly our school's Gala, a night filled with generosity, compassion, and a shared commitment to the future of our students. Together, we raised an impressive $40,000 to support bursaries and scholarships, ensuring that deserving students have access to transformative educational opportunities. The unity and benevolence displayed by the MacLachlan community on that evening were truly awe-inspiring, and it fills me with anticipation for the remarkable things we will accomplish in the years ahead.

In addition to these events, we had monthly virtual sessions throughout the year where we gathered to hang out, share memories, and network for both personal and professional growth. Together, we worked on resumes, set goals for the future, and reaffirmed the belief that "Together is better!"

As I've immersed myself in the vibrant tapestry of the MacLachlan community, I've gained invaluable insights that will guide my strategic planning for the years to come. My priority is to ensure that our alumni feel supported in every step of their journey and that they always know they have a home to return to, regardless of where life may lead them.

Looking ahead, I am filled with excitement for the completion of our new Upper School campus. I can't wait to invite our alumni to our new campus for future events and witness how the legacy of MacLachlan is perpetuated even in a new setting. With the amazing support of our alumni, this legacy will continue to thrive and inspire generations to come.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every member of the MacLachlan community for embracing me with such warmth and kindness. It has been an honor to be a part of this extraordinary community, and I look forward with great excitement to the journey that lies ahead. Together, we will continue to nurture the spirit of connection, generosity, and belonging that defines MacLachlan College.
