The Importance of Alumni Connections

by: Rachel O'Hagan

Did you know that staying connected to MacLachlan College could open doors to new opportunities, lasting friendships, and personal growth? As the Alumni Relations Manager, I see firsthand how powerful our alumni network truly is—whether it's offering career support, sharing valuable mentorship, or simply providing a space where we can all come together. The connections we make here go far beyond graduation, and the impact lasts a lifetime.

Expanding Networks & Building Careers

One of my favourite parts of this role is hearing the stories of how MacLachlan connections have opened doors. Alumni have shared how connecting within this community has helped shape their educational path and future careers in ways they couldn’t have anticipated. “I didn’t realize how much I’d miss the support system at MacLachlan—the sense of comfort in knowing I could reach out to teachers when I faced new challenges,” shared one of our recent graduates. Stories like these remind me that our network is much more than a list—it’s a resource and support system that works to empower alumni at every stage of life.

Opportunities for Growth & Mentorship

We’re proud to create spaces where alumni can give back, learn, and inspire one another. The upcoming Leadership Conference in February is a perfect example, bringing alumni together to lead workshops and discussions that will empower the next generation of MacLachlan leaders. If you’re passionate about giving back or want to connect with alumni who share that goal, this conference is an amazing chance to do so. It’s an inspiring reminder of what we can achieve when we come together with purpose.

Connecting Over Shared Passions & Interests

Our network also thrives on the little things—the coffee catch-ups, the social meet-ups, the shared laughs. In February, we’ll have our Annual Alumni Ball Hockey Tournament. Whether you’re joining us on the rink or cheering from the sidelines, it’s a fantastic way to reconnect in a laid-back environment. And for those seeking a more peaceful way to connect, our Yoga & Coffee Morning in January offers a moment to relax, recharge, and enjoy a morning of wellness together.

Discovering MacLachlan’s New Spaces

We’re also thrilled to invite you to the Open Doors event at our new upper school campus! This space, located near downtown Oakville, marks an exciting new chapter for MacLachlan, and I can’t wait for you to see it. Join us on Tuesday, December 12th from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM for a chance to explore the campus, catch up with old friends, and get a glimpse into the future of MacLachlan.

Embracing the Future Together

Being part of the MacLachlan community means something special, and I’d love for you to experience that throughout the year. From casual gatherings to inspiring conferences, our events are here to help you make lasting connections, share in meaningful moments, and continue to grow alongside each other.
As we approach February, I hope you’ll join us for these upcoming events and discover the many ways our alumni network can be a part of your life.
