Learning from the Past: Black Creek Pioneer Village
Our Grade 1 students had an amazing day at Black Creek Pioneer Village for their "I Can Build a House" inquiry unit!
They explored pioneer homes, learning about sustainable building practices like choosing materials wisely and constructing without nails due to resource scarcity. The students discovered how pioneers selected locations near water and avoided flood zones, inspiring us to think eco-friendly today.
To cap it off, our young builders used these lessons to create homes for bugs using materials they found around them.
To prepare future-ready individuals, we need to share and instill common values across our school community and embed these values in everything we do.
