Students Show the Power of Caring Through Service in Action: Grade 5’s Visit to Shifra Homes

Last week, our Grade 5 students put the PYP Learner Profile into action, demonstrating the attribute of caring in a meaningful and heartfelt way. As part of their Service in Action initiative, they organized and hosted a successful diaper drive, collecting thousands of diapers for Shifra Homes in Burlington—a safe haven for young mothers and their babies.

During their visit to Shifra Homes, the students had the unique opportunity to meet some of the moms and their little ones face-to-face. The students didn’t just drop off donations—they connected. Gathering around the babies, they sang nursery songs and rhymes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and The Itsy Bitsy Spider, filling the space with warmth, laughter, and a sense of community. They also delivered handmade cards they had thoughtfully created, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the visit.

The staff at Shifra Homes welcomed the students with open arms, making them feel truly appreciated and valued. By the end of the visit, our students walked away feeling proud, inspired, and deeply moved—knowing they had made a real difference in the lives of others. This experience was a powerful reminder of how compassion, action, and connection come together to create something truly special.

Thank you to all who contributed to this incredible effort—your donations helped us make a tangible impact on the lives of young mothers and their babies.
